I have been teaching music to children, teens and adults for 30 years. I have a private practice in my home music studio, as well as being the music teacher at Spring Hill Elementary School in Santa Cruz, CA.

I use a playful approach to teaching my music students how to develop the necessary skills and understanding to achieve their goals.

As my student you are encouraged to bring in recordings of music you like to listen to. We use that material as the basis for acquiring good technique with your instrument, an understanding of music theory, reading, writing, and the ability to improvise.

You also have the opportunity to explore the other instruments in my studio: acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, drums, keyboard, clarinet, violin, recorder, as well as notation and composition software and recording equipment.

My background as a musician includes a BA in Aesthetic Studies with a focus on Music from UCSC in 1980, being a member of numerous ensembles and solo projects in the rock, jazz and classical genres, and a variety of recording credits.
