FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY WITH ELIOT

What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a method to cure what ails you. The word “hypnotherapy” comes from a combination of two Greek words: hypnos, which means “sleep” and therapeia, which means “curing” or “healing”. The use of a relaxed, sleep-like or dream state as a means of healing has been recorded in the histories of the oldest civilizations and indigenous cultures. I will teach you practices, which you can use at home, to guide your mind into this healing state.

Will I be conscious while I’m under hypnosis?
Yes. Although “hypnos” connotes “sleep”, it would be more accurate to describe the work we’ll do together as an insightful approach to bringing your mind into an open, relaxed, safe and transformative focused clarity.

How does Hypnotherapy help people?
Studies have shown that our mental/emotional state influences our ability to heal as well as our overall health and well-being. Deep Insight Hypnosis is an effective way to get ahold of your own mind and guide it in a nourishing direction.

What is Deep Insight Hypnosis?
Deep Insight Hypnosis (DIH) is the process I have developed and teach to you. Every issue you have in your life can be addressed and transformed through DIH. There are 3 main components to DIH. The first is the focused, relaxed, receptive state that you will learn to induce in yourself. The second is the visualization/conscious dreaming practices which activates the regions of your brain and physiology responsible for creating pleasurable feelings and receiving new possibilities. The third is developing insight into how your mind receives, organizes and responds to information, particularly under stress. These 3 components of the transformational healing process of DIH gives you a way to work with any difficulty, struggle or pain that you experience.

How is Deep Insight Hypnosis different from mainstream “Suggestion Hypnosis”?
“Suggestion Hypnosis” refers to the client’s mind receiving and accepting “suggestions” from the therapist. I use it occasionally as it is sometimes helpful in getting immediate relief from certain chronic or acute issues, but it’s limited to having a therapist there to guide your mind. In contrast, I will teach you how to develop your own skill to get ahold of your mind and guide it for your own well being. Additionally, through the 3 components of DIH you will gain a deeper understanding of the “triggers” and the habitual patterns of emotional/mental/physical reactions they set off, as well as the tools to break those patterns and develop healthier ones.

How is Deep Insight Hypnosis different from traditional talk therapy?
Talk therapy is centered on the client using most of the session to talk, airing problems and concerns that usually have no other avenue for expression. The therapist’s main job is to create and hold a safe space for the client to verbalize what has been previously unexpressed. In our sessions you have the opportunity to share what you need to express, but you’ll also have plenty of time to learn and practice the DIH skills being presented to you. These skills will directly address the issue(s) you bring in to the session to work on, and you will experience immediate results from the process.

What if I can’t be hypnotized?
Sleeping is the deepest trance state, so you know you are capable. Have you ever walked into a room in your house, knowing you were headed there for some reason, but couldn’t remember why? Have you ever been driving down the road and suddenly realized you missed your turn because you were thinking about something else? These are examples of being in a trance. Your awareness was far from the task at hand because you were “lost” in other thoughts. Studies have shown that we spend more than 50% of our day thinking about something other than what we are doing, and though 70% of our day is relatively good, 28% neutral and only 2% bad, we spend most of our time thinking about the bad 2%! This speaks to our proclivity to be “entranced” and focused on the negative. One part of the mechanism of change which you will learn to develop through DIH is your connection to the present moment, anchored by the awareness to the sensations of your own physical presence. This connection doesn’t require any more ability to be hypnotized than you have already.

How long is each session?
Each session is 85 minutes long.

How many sessions should I expect to have to resolve my issue?
I suggest that you commit to a minimum of 3 sessions. Most of my clients receive what they come for in each session. They often return to go deeper and to refine the new skills and insights they are developing. Frequently resolving an issue sets up the opportunity to work on and resolve another, so some of my clients return to work with me on a regular basis.

What is the cost per session?
My fee for each session is $150.

Where do the sessions take place?
Currently sessions are held online only.
